Without a question, vitamins are indeed vital to keep our body efficiently functioning. The primary source of vitamins is food. Hence, having a healthy eating lifestyle is now observed by many. But do the vitamins we take from the food we eat are already sufficient?
The answer is no. With this, buying vitamins seem to be the easy solution. However, many are negative towards the thought of buying vitamins for supplementation. And probably, one of the concerns is budget. It’s considered as an additional expense listed in the grocery list not to mention the headache one needs to go through in choosing which brands to consider in buying vitamins. But, everyone would agree that “prevention is better than cure” as hospitalization expenses tend to be higher than vitamin supplements.
Vitamin supplements are great in filling nutrition gaps and be able to have the recommended daily intake for men and women alike across all ages. Here are some pointers that one might consider in buying vitamins. Those in the medical field have long researched on the needed daily vitamin dosage of both men and women. These optimum dosages are the same throughout the ages 20 to 50 years old and older except for certain vitamins. For example, at ages 20 to 40, women need to take 250 mg of Vitamin C twice daily but women belonging to ages 40 to 50 have increased required daily dosage of 400 mg twice a day. Vitamin F (folate), on the other hand, must be taken twice a day at 400 mcg by 20 to 40-year-old women. But as they grow older and belong to the 40 to 50 year old bracket, the recommended amount is reduced to 200 mcg twice daily. Vitamin D3, Vitamin F (folate), Niacin and Pantothetic acid are required vitamins to be taken when you’re 20 to 50 years old but when you become older than stated, the list is reduced to Vitamin D3 and Pantothetic acid, that is if you’re skeptical in taking and buying vitamins, at least take these required vitamins. For men, on the other hand, 250 mg of Vitamin C twice daily is recommended for 20 to 35 years old but when you’re 40 to 50 years old, it’s increased to 400 mg twice daily. Simialrly, Vitamin D3 and Pantothetic acid remain to be a must-take for men of all ages.
